Pirate Life Brewing

Pirate Life has never been just beer on a shelf. Its website, however, had split the story in two: brand and venue content lived apart from the online store, creating a disconnect between discovering Pirate Life and buying from it.
We brought those worlds together in a custom Shopify platform. Beer, merch, venues, events and more than a decade of stories now share one distinctly Pirate Life experience, giving customers more ways into the brand and the internal team one place to keep it moving.
Pirate Life had outgrown their previous digital setup. Customers could move between the brand website and a separate store, but the experience did not reflect how closely its products, venues, events and community are connected.
The brief was to turn Shopify into more than a checkout. The new site needed to sell beer and merchandise, promote several venues, support table bookings and events, carry editorial content, meet the responsibilities of selling alcohol online and remain flexible enough for fast-moving campaigns.
Pirate Life’s design team provided the creative direction. Rockethouse translated it into a custom Shopify theme, extending the system where interaction, commerce and content needed to work harder while keeping everyday publishing in the hands of the client team.
The new site brings the store and the wider brand together on the main Pirate Life domain. A visitor can arrive for a new beer, find out what is happening at a venue, book a table, explore the brewery’s history or pick up a piece of merch without crossing into a separate digital experience.
That shared structure gives every part of Pirate Life more context. Products can sit alongside campaigns and stories; venue pages can connect practical information with events; and the homepage can move easily between what is new, where to visit and what to buy.

The shop does not sit inside a generic ecommerce frame. Shoppable hero content, animated product carousels, quick views, filters and product recommendations turn browsing into a more expressive part of the brand.
A custom cart carries the same visual language through to purchase, including a free-shipping progress prompt and date-of-birth verification before checkout. The experience respects the additional responsibility of selling alcohol online without allowing those requirements to take over the interface.

Pirate Life is experienced in physical places as much as it is through a can. The site gives its venues a prominent role, with a responsive venue explorer, individual destination pages, booking pathways and a shared What’s On view.
Venue and event information is structured in Shopify rather than repeated across disconnected pages. Events can be associated with the right locations and filtered by venue, while each place retains the imagery, information and character it needs.

Pirate Life’s campaigns move quickly and do not all need to look the same. The custom theme gives editors a broad set of reusable sections for hero imagery and video, shoppable banners, product and venue carousels, content splits, forms, accordions, maps and promotional calls to action.
Colour and type treatments can shift for a particular venue or campaign while the core interface stays coherent. Shared announcements can be created once and reused, and modular page structures let the team change pace or emphasis without commissioning a new template for every idea.
The platform makes room for the history behind the products. An interactive timeline carries Pirate Life from its first cross-country brewery build through new venues, collaborations, festivals and national releases.
That richer editorial layer matters because it makes the store feel like part of the same culture as the brewery. Shopify becomes the place where Pirate Life can sell, publish and celebrate what happens around the beer — not simply list what is available.

Customers can browse beer and merch, discover events, plan a venue visit and understand the story behind the brewery within the same experience.
For the Pirate Life team, campaigns, venue details, events, announcements and long-form content now sit inside a flexible Shopify system. The platform can support day-to-day publishing as well as the next limited release, collaboration or venue moment without separating brand expression from the store.
It is an ecommerce site built around how Pirate Life actually works: part brewery, part retailer, part collection of venues - and always a brand with something new happening.
